This girl is strangely enough one of the closest things he has to a best friend right now. After his sister's death he struggled to find and keep friends, not really wanting to get close to anyone in paticular. However, once Nike came back into his life he clung to her emotionally. She's his last connection to Veronica in his mind, especially considering she took on so many of his sister's traits.
She doesn't mind the fact that he see's her this way at all and similarly clings back to him

His sister, his confidante. They were super close ever since childhood. While they had their rough patches they had always been very open with each other. She was one of his best friends and the glue which kept his small family together. However after his sister's death his mother fell apart, and while she still functioned normally by all means she seemed to always be missing that spark of life, the thing which his sister added to his family.
He respects and honors his sister's memory, however has come to resent it a bit as it has become such a dark spot in his life. He wishes that perhaps the depression surrounding Veronica's name could someday be lifted so his mother could live again.

Shinji and Marcello get along well enough. They really weren't all that interested in becoming close until they realized they shared Nike in common. Marcello is unsure of how much to let Shinji in on Nike's past and the events which led up to who she is today. However he does trust Nike in Shinji's hands and think he is a very capable guardian for Nike.

He doesn't know Yoshie all that well. However, he is grateful towards her. She is the one who brought Nike back into his life, indirect as it was. He thinks she's super sweet and in many ways reminds him of his own sister.
